Joining Techniques in the Construction Industry

In order to fulfill present and future requirements within the field of the construction industry the BAU 2003 as the leading European trade fair within the fields of construction materials, systems and renewals emphasises the modern joining technique as one of the new innovative main focuses. The main topic is the structural bonding with different construction materials and substrates to get across additional economic impulses with innovation to the construction industry. In order to live up to this technical challenge the headship of the BAU 2003 was looking for a cooperation with an experienced consulting group. They found them in the organisers of the International Symposiums on Bonding Technology who will host their 21st symposium with the topic “Joining Techniques in the Construction Industry” with the BAU 2003 at the New Munich Trade Fair Center. This cooperation assures the visitor of the BAU 2003 of qualified discussions at the stands of the exhibitors and of the exchange of experience with an expert group. By the presentations at the symposium the progressive construction professional is introduced to new innovation fields of adhesive bonding and sealing in the construction industry.

Adhesive bonding in the construction industry – how come?

Economic depression in segments of the construction industry correlates with the lack of innovations and the sticking to traditional joining techniques. On the other hand are these sectors that have developed new unconventional innovations, like for example chemical shear connectors or adhesives for tiles, successful today and have an economic boom. The experience of 50 years in the field of structured wood glue building confirms this as well. Nowadays the construction industry and especially the concrete building has reached an upper limit, so that future economic aspects cannot be focussed anymore. An essential obstacle is the conventional joining technique that is moreover not suitable for hybrid construction and substrate systems. Another reason is that the conventional concrete technology is hardly suitable for repair work and reconstruction.

The 21st International Symposium on Bonding Technology in the context of the BAU 2003 introduces the interested visitor with practice-related presentations to the innovation fields of adhesive bonding and sealing.

May we remind: In 1958 the Munich chemist and adhesive expert Rudolf Hinterwaldner (founder of the Symposiums on Bonding Technology) produced the first European fresh concrete/concrete bondings with the collaboration of the Bavarian capital Munich in a big practical test. This innovative technique met with no response in the German-speaking countries at this time. 45 years later the adhesive bonding technique turned out to be the only economic and technical alternative.
